About Kat Harris
Kat Harris was born and raised in North Carolina. She has been drawing ever since she could hold a pencil. At 9 years old she accurately copied a Modigliani as an exercise in painting which caught the eye of a local art teacher and thus her art education began. At age 10 Kat started private art lessons in oil painting.
Kat had an early interest in portraiture. She painted through junior high and high school commissioned on several ocassions for portraits. During her high school years she was president of the Art Club.
Kat holds a Bachelor of Fine Arts Degree. After graduation she married and continued with her art exploring different mediums including pastels, pencils, charcoals, clay sculptures and wood carving. Her biologist husband introduced her to the fauna of South Texas while studying there. She discovered a love of all animals and animal portraiture inspired by the boundless wildlife in the area.
Kat's artistic inspirations since her move to Florida 20+ years ago have been her beautiful yellow labradors past and present and the wildlife in her area. She works in a realistic style finding much joy in the detail. Painting water is her specialty and may of her paintings include water.
Kat won Juror's Pick at the 2005 Micanopy Spring Arts Show. She held the position of President of the Micanopy Community Council for the Arts in 2006 and is a founding member of Gallery Under the Oaks in Micanopy, Florida.
Kat lives in Hawthorne, Florida with her husband Tim and three furry "children" and a variety of wildlife who live and/or wander through the property. In addition she works as a Registered Nurse and a Certified Reiki Master Healer, Crystal and Stone Healer and Master Teacher. |
